We Cancelled DocuSign for The Google Workspace eSignature Feature

I love it when technology makes life easier. Running Vardot, a global company with multiple teams and clients across different time zones, means we deal with a lot of paperwork. Contracts, NDAs, proposals—you name it. For years, we relied on DocuSign to handle our electronic signatures. It did the job, but it always felt like an extra step we had to manage separately.

Then, Google announced its new eSignature feature in Google Workspace. That caught my attention. We were already deep in the Google ecosystem—using Gmail, Drive, Docs, and Meet every single day. So, the idea of having eSignatures built directly into Google Docs and Drive made perfect sense.

Making the Switch

As soon as the feature became available, we tested it. The setup was seamless—no integrations, no need to jump between different apps. I could draft an agreement in Google Docs, request signatures directly from there, and track the status without leaving the document. It was simple, fast, and—most importantly—already included in our Google Workspace plan.

That’s when it clicked.

We didn’t need DocuSign anymore. Why pay for a separate tool when Google Workspace eSignature does the same job, just as well, without the extra cost? So, we cancelled our DocuSign subscription.

Why This is a Game Changer

For businesses like ours, this move is disruptive. Here’s why:

  1. No Extra Cost – If you’re already using Google Workspace, eSignatures come built-in. No need to pay for another tool.
  2. Fewer Apps, Less Friction – Everything happens inside Google Drive and Docs. No exporting, uploading, or logging into another platform.
  3. Better Collaboration – We’re already reviewing and editing documents in Google Docs. Now, we can finalize them with a signature—without ever leaving the file.
  4. Security & Compliance – Google’s security standards are rock solid. eSignatures are legally binding and meet compliance requirements.

The Future of eSignatures

This move by Google is a direct challenge to DocuSign, Adobe Sign, and other eSignature providers. While those tools have been the industry standard for years, they are now facing a major shift. Businesses that use Google Workspace no longer have a reason to keep paying for a separate eSignature service.

At Vardot, we’re all about efficiency, simplicity, and cutting unnecessary costs. That’s why we made the switch. If you’re still paying for DocuSign, I’d highly recommend giving Google’s eSignature a try. You might just find yourself canceling that subscription too.
